Wedding ring back on finger, Blog back on line, etc.

Hi friends. After some time without a wedding ring or a working website, I’ve finally gotten both taken care of. … So you’ll see lots of posts all at once. I won’t be upset if you don’t read ’em all, this blog is as much for my memory as for your entertainment… Got my new ring today and got the blog back up yesterday. If you have any issues with it, try deleting your cookies in your browser and if you still have problems please tell me so I can try to fix it. Other than these two news items, other things have also happened. We are hoping to move on to our next adventure next week and we think we are getting close to knowing what that adventure might be. Most likely it has something to do with Costa Rica, but you never know. Just yesterday we got a response for a workaway host that they would have room for us in Patagonia, Argentina at this amazing looking sheep farm hotel place (Bahia Bustamante). This got me very excited, but we are still checking to make sure it can happen logistically. Today we are heading up to Padre Ramos with O+O for some fun time near a beach and volcano. The other nite we had an in house concert by an amazing Nicaraguan guitarista.

We also played a little baseball with La Kenna. This was very fun.

Granada and Laguna de Apoyo

Now sitting lakeside after a nice long swim in Laguna de Apoyo, basically a huge nature-made swimming pool in a crater surrounded by jungle. I guess 20,000 years ago this volcano blew it’s top and was subsequently filled with rain water. It is also still heated by underwater hot volcano stuff so it is not only clean and clear, but the perfect temperature as well.

Other than this, we’ve been in Granada after a desperate getaway from Ometepe (not the smoothest excursion). We both decided we are not dirty hippy fans.

We are staying at the nice Hostal Oasis which we have decided is well worth the few extra bucks to have a pool. I have been trying to fix this blog lately and it has been a tech support nightmare to say the least. We’ve been meeting some nice fellow travelers- Granada has a lot of those and a lot of people trying to sell you stuff.

I want to sell a t-shirt in Granada that says ” no quiero chicle, no quiero cigarillos, no quiero animales hechos de planta, no quiero caramelos, no quiero un tour, no quiero comprar nada (especialmente mientras estoy comiendo la cena)… pero gracias.

Happy Birthday Bro +

danteeeeeeeeeeeeee.. miss you bro. happy bday

Sitting/ lying in the mirador at Zopilote with a sheet for our makeshift shade. Many things have happened since I last posted and hopefully I can remember most of them. I’ll write reverse chronological order this time. We arrived in Ometepe last night after a long day and were greeted by a bunch of dirty hippies at Finca Zopilote.

Before that we saw Contagion in Leon with Oli + Ofe. The ac and company were nice but the movie was not. Before that we had one of the best weekends ever at La Bahia Eco-resort on the beach near Chinandega. The owners of La Bahia might be the best hosts of all time as we felt like kings and queens the whole time we were there. We surfed and swam and dipped in the pool. I ate lobster with no reaction. We pretty much walked around with our jaws dropped 90% of the time. In case you can’t tell, we highly recommend it if you are looking for your next awesome vacation spot. Only one issue: during a beautiful morning of surf with Jimmy and Lisa and Olin and Holly Beck, my wedding ring slipped off and fell into the not so clear waters of the Pacific. We looked and looked but it was gone, probably still getting pushed around with the waves in the bay. Ironically we had also chosen to celebrate our 7th anniversary at La Bahia so the ring made it through 7 years of life and surf but wanted to stay at La Bahia. Hard to blame it, we wanted to stay too.

Before all of this, we spent some QT with O+O+Kenna in Leon while trying to figure out our next move and we still are. Currently we are working our planning our immediately future as in what are we going to do tomorrow? And where will we sleep? Rub dirt on our bodies and grow dreads or maybe look for something a bit less rustico.

Also at some point before now we went to a fun baseball game with Oli in Leon.

p.s. Although we were hiding from the sun when I first started writing, we are now in our cabin hiding from a torrential downpour.

Nica: Day 33/365ish

It’s election day in Nicaragua and Daniel will win Olin says. Let me tell you that if you have never come to Nicaragua you should now, and when you come you should come to Leon and when you come to Leon you should stay at Tortuga Booluda and when you stay there beg Olin to take you up to Finca Cafe con Leche. The pictures really don’t capture the beauty and serenity of the farm and life up in the mountains above Esteli.

We only visited for 2 days, but it felt like we also did some time travel. They grow mostly coffee and cows at the farm. On our first morning we walked up a hill and were greeted by a screaming red tail hawk, tasty guava trees and amazing views out over green hills.

Olin and Gabe near the top of the finca

Going to try to watch the niners game today and help Oli around the hostal. Can’t wait to get to the beach and in the water. Probably soon.

Happy Birthday Tara, Ben, Kumiko, Randy and Kari. Hello Nicaragua

Hi everyone. After a 22 hour journey from Grenada to Leon that went as smoothly as possible for that type of thing, we made it to the lovely Tortuga Booluda Hostal owned by our great friend Olin Cohan. We’re about to head out to the finca, but wanted to wish many good friends happy birthday (sorry Kari, we don’t have a picture of you). I’ll say more in a few days when we’re back in the cyberworld, but it has been great and we reallly like Leon and Nica.
